Crashing when copy/paste from PageMaker to Publisher 2000

Hoping someone can help me with this problem. I compose print documents in Adobe PageMaker 6.5, some of which I wish to copy to our Website and I use Publisher 2000 as my Web design tool. When copying/pasting text from PageMaker into Publisher, Publisher frequently crashes and closes. I'm running Win2000 on an Intel Pentium 4 with 256 RAM. I find that if I copy from PageMaker into Word and then from Word into Publisher there's no problem, but I'd prefer to avoid the extra step if I can. Many thanks for any suggestions.
