Crashing when using Formatting in Word or Excel 2004

T

Any time I try to use the drop down menu for Formatting in EITHER Word
or Excel 2004, I get the spinning ball and then a crash, after a lot of
spinning.

So I work without formatting on my G4 Powerbook; and then send the
finished Word or Excel do to either a desktop Mac or desktop PC to add
the formatting.

What gives?

And, how to fix?

I've seen that with previous versions of Office. Is Office up to date on
your Mac (11.2.6 - but most apps still say 11.2.5).

It could also be due to corrupt preferences.
try this:
quit all apps
Go to user\library\ preferences\Microsoft\Excel toolbars and
user\documents\Microsoft user data\normal
move these files to finder or some other location
relaunch and try your formatting steps in word and excel .See if the
problem goes away .

Also it would be great if you could send the crash log to me so I can
investigate this problem more.

Thanks,
Priyanka

I see the Excel toolbars in that folder. But don't see any similar
toolbars for Word. Shouldn't there be a similar toolbars item for Word?

If I remember well, the settings for the toolbars for Word are all
stored in the Normal template Priyanka mentioned

Word's toolbars are stored in the Normal template as directed to in the MUD
by Priyanka. Move Normal out along with the Excel Toolbars file from the
other location.
