Crashing without saving

David

My Word 2003 crashes on an almost daily basis - whenever I have large
documents with tables and graphics. Anyway, I set the autorecover to every
five minutes and yet when Word crashes and I recover the application is takes
me back usually an hour or two and everything is lost. Please explain this
and tell me what to do.

First go to your temp folder and clean it out: it is a temp folder and
should be empty when everything is close. From a fresh reboot, go to
Documents and Settings/Username/Local Settings/Temp and delete everything in
there.

Empty your Recycle Bin, then run a full scandisk to ensure your hard drive
is OK. Check that you have the latest printer driver and then delete and
reinstall your printer to ensure that it isn't causing the problem.

Rename normal.dot as normal.bad. Start Word. Open one of the long documents
that is giving problems by using File, Open, Select the document and choose
Open and Repair (from the little arrow at the side of the OPEN button). Word
should find any problems and fix them for you.

AutoRecovery only recovers back to the last time your saved. Learn to save
regularly - save every time your are interrupted or need to think.
