Crazy screen fresh loop

I'm working on a Powerpoint presentation using Office 2003, fully
patched & updated.

Sometimes when pulling up certain slides in the editing mode, the
screen will refresh, go blank, refresh, go blank, and this will happen
for several minutes. Not too productive :-( because the whole program
basically quits working until it is done refreshing or redrawing.

The item in the slide is .jpg of a document with some annotation using
text boxes.

I've searched the web with no luck. Is there a Powerpoint guru that
has any ideas how to fix this?

Try this:

In windows (not powerpoint!)

Right click the desk top > Properties>Settings>Advanced>troubleshoot (this
is NOT the first troubleshoot you see!)

Slide the hardware accelleration slider fully left and OK out and try again.

If it works slide it back right gradually. You should also look for updates
to your video drivers.
