Create a table in Visio 2003 Standard

Lynn

I used to be able to create a Table shape (from the Charts and Graphs
template) in Visio 2002 Standard, and I was able to add rows, delete columns,
resize the columns, wrap text within each column/row.

However, with Visio 2003, I can no longer find the "Table" shape. Instead,
there is a shape called "Grid" under the Charting Shapes template. With the
Grid, I am not able to resize any of the columns, add rows, or even wrap the
texts in each box.

Does anyone know how or where I can get a function/shape similar to the
Table shape in Visio 2002. I need this as I often create flowcharts/business
process diagrams with descriptive texts in a table format next to the
diagrams.

Lynn,
I was unpleasantly surprised with tables and Visio 2003 as well. However, I
have tested a solution that seems to work.

1) In Word, create a table and size it to the width you wish to use.
2) In Page setup, set all margins to "0". Create a Custom Size page and set
the page width to the width of the table.
What you want is a page that is exactly as wide as the table. You may have
to adjust the page width by 0.1" to achieve this.
3) Save the Word doc.
4) In Visio, select Insert>Object.
5) Select Create from file and then click Browse.
6) Locate the Word table doc and click Open. Click OK.
Your table appears in Visio.
7) Double-click the table to edit it. The table has all the functionality of
a table in Word.
Repeat this process for all of your tables. Create macros to insert
frequently used tables.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to Ken & Lynn for the workaround.

Anyone out there know whether there are plans to return this feature that I
guess was inadvertently nuked in the 2003 release?
