How do I create a table of contents from documents inserted as objects to the
main one. The source of these documents is locked or protected.

You cannot create a table of contents from documents inserted as automation
(OLE) objects, if that is what you are asking. Note, however, that you can
insert Word documents via the Insert File dialog box, and the headings of
those documents will be recognized by the TOC in the target.

To insert a file in Word 2007: Click the Insert tab, click the arrow on the
Object button, and then click Text from File. Word displays the Insert File
dialog. Click the file that you want to insert. Then click the arrow on the
Insert button, and choose Insert as Link; Word adds the file as an
INCLUDETEXT field.

To update the INCLUDETEXT fields in the selection, press F9. Conversely, you
can save edits to a field back to its source by pressing Ctrl+Shift+F7.
