Create hyperlinks in body of Entourage message?

This is such an simple task in Outlook. Does Entourage even allow you to
create hyperlinks in the body of a message (I know about the signature)? If
so, how?

THANKS,
Doug

Try a little test. Type a URL and send it to yourself. When you receive
it, it is a hyperlink. The receiving application interprets this as a valid
URL and creates the hyperlink.

Why they don't make it a hyperlink before it is sent is puzzling, since many
people consider this standard behavior since most PC clients do this.

That way you can't accidentally click & open the hyperlink while you're
still editing the URL or the message body. I've had that inconvenience too
often in Word to complain about Entourage's behavior.

Hi Doug,

Most email programs and many other types of programs look for text
strings that look like hyperlinks. For example, if I type www.google.com
then it is usually not going to be considered a hyperlink. But if I put
http:// in front of the URL then most email programs will highlight the
link and make it clicable. http://www.google.com/ is recognized by
Entourage as a hyperlink. So is mailto:[email protected]. The point
is that the viewing program is what makes the link clickable, not the
message creating program.

If you are seeking the feature of having some text that is highlighted
but says something like "click here" and links to a URL, in Office for
the Mac the way to do it is to create the message in Word. Select the
text, picture, clipart, graph or any other object that you want to link
and then use Insert > Hyperlink (or control-click and choose Insert
Hyperlink or press Apple+K). When you are ready to send the email use
File > Send To > Mail Recipient.

Or get my free "Make Hyperlinks X" script at

MacScripter.net <http://macscripter.net/scriptbuilders/>

That also can store hyperlinks you use regularly, such as in signatures, so
it makes those automatically without requiring you to type in the display
text every time.
