create multiple, similar, but different docs from a template.

I have a scenario where I need to produce some site-specific manuals. /the
body of the manuals will all be largely the same, but site-specific info
will differ in each manual. Location addresses, Equipment IDs etc...

I'm aware of the find/replace command - but I'd like to do something a bit
more sophisticated..

Is it possible to generate a word document that references another file - so
that changes to the master template can be reflected quickly through out the
document..

EG from the master template, change site address - and all refences to that
change in the document?

so.. considering the text below...

The emergency muster point at [sitename] is located at [musterlocation].
The telephone number of the site emergency phone is [emerphone number]. In
the event of an emergency staff at [sitename] should evacuate to
[musterlocation]. The duty engineer should, in the event of an emergency
contact the area control room on [controlroom number] and advise that
[sitename] is currently evacuated. Then before leaving the site control room
the emergency shut-down button, located on the [ESd button location] should
be pressed.

ideally the square bracketed text should refernce a table such as below.
site specific data could be inputted and all references to the fields would
change throughout the doc.
[sitename] =
[emerphone number] =
[musterlocation] =
[controlroom number] =
[ESd button location] =

EG. [ESd button location] could be in site specific cases, for different
sites.. 'control room desk', 'wall by the main exit', 'Unit control room ESD
panel'

Find/replace is too laborious for what I want to do....!
Can what I want to do be done?

Simon.

That could be done using Mail Merge.

I am not real familiar with Word but I think AutoText is another
possibility.
