"create new folder" icon

Where do I find this one? On some of our machines here it
is present in the window that opens when we press
the "open file" icon, but it is not on others. It is a
handy way of opening a new folder - otherwise, we end up
doing it in Explorer. I am familiar with customizing
toolbars, but the top of this window is not a toolbar as
such. In any event, I cannot find the icon in question (a
folder with a star at the corner) anywhere in the commands
list.

On the machines where it is not an option try right clicking in the file
window > new > folder

Hi Simon,

This is not a command that can generally be added to dialog
boxes. If it's there, you're in luck; if it's not, you'll
have to create the folder elsewhere, first.

Thanks Graham. But don't understand that. Are your
instructions for use in Explorer? I know about creating
folders in WE, but I want to do it from Word - couldn't
understand how your suggestion works. Am I being dense?

You haven't said what version of Word you're talking about. The Create New
Folder button is on the toolbar of the File Open and Save dialogs in at
least Word 97-2003.

Many applications allow you to right click in their file operation windows -
the Explorer like windows where the file names are displayed - to reveal a
New... option which will let you create folders and shortcuts. As Suzanne
has indicated, all recent Word versions provide a tool on their file
operations Window toolbar to create folders.
