Create project

M

Montse

Hello:

I need to create projects and resources with PDS. I have
download a extender (Project Utilities PDS Extender) that
should create them because there isn't a method in PDS API
to generate a new project.

I believe that the problem begins with the creation of a
project. I used one of the method of the extender
(ProjectCreate) but I think that this method don't fill
all the necessary fields in the SQL Server tables because
after the creation, the project doesn't appear in
MSP_VIEW_PROJ_PROJECTS_STD or in MSP_WEB_PROJECTS.

The projects appear in the table MSP_PROJECT but I can't
open them with the Project Professional or with the Web
Access.

Thanks you very much.

Hi Montse,

If you cannot open a project, it could be due to the security settings you
have. Try going to PWA and click on the Projects tab. Then, select the row
(not the project name) of the project you created with the PDS Extender.
Click on the "Edit Details" button and make yourself the owner. See if you
can open the schedule in Project Pro now.

As for the projects not showing up in the PROJECTS_STD or WEB_PROJECTS
table, this should be okay because I believe both are not used until you
Publish the project via the Collaborate menu.

Hi Montse,

I'm starting to wonder if this has anything to do with PDS at all. Go to
the "Categories" tab and modify the category you are in. If the project is
listed, add it to the category and see if this fixes the problem.

If this does fix it, it is because you are probably using the RBS for the
security model and you simply can't see the project because it is not
associated with your level in the RBS.

Please let me know how this works out.

Hi Montse,

The RBS stands for Resource Breakdown Structure. It is the tool that allows
you to determine what level a person is at within the organization and how
much/little they get to see. Basically, you know if this is being used by
opening the Enterprise Global and going to Tools->Customize->Enterprise
fields and viewing the RBS (which is Resource Outline Code 30).

In the meantime, try logging in as the Administrator account MS came with to
see if the project is viewable in the Category.

Hi Bill,

I'm afraid that RBS has not been used, because when I
open the option that you said to me, many options are
disable and in the View Code Mask and View Lookup Table
there isn't any value. Would you mind telling me what can
I do to assign right values in order to work with the
projects or what should I do?

Thank you very much,

Montse.

Hi Montse,

Unfortunately, it is hard for me to know how you are doing this and again,
I'm not much of a PDS user. You might want to re-post your question here
and fill-in the blanks of what we talked about so the question is more
focused.

However, I would think that if you are able to set a database owner, that
person should be able to see it. To be honest though, if all security
settings are correct, I'm thinking there is a bug in your code to create the
project.

Sorry if this is not more helpful,

-Bill
