Create Task in OneNote for Outlook doesn't work...

Lon Diffenderfer

I have tried using the feature of creating an Outlook item from OneNote and
the option is always unavailable. I highlight the selection that I wish to
have placed in an Outlook task and then select "Create Outlook Item => Create
Outlook Task" and the option is "greyed out." Thanks in advance to all who
offer their assistance.

Are you also using Outlook 2003?

Diane,

Yes, both Outlook and OneNote are 2003 SP1.

Lon,

I haven't seen this problem before.

Are all three Outlook options from Create Outlook Item greyed out? Or
only the "Create Outlook Task" option?

You mentioned in a follow up post that you are using SP1 of both
Outlook and OneNote. Can you post the version numbers from Help |
About from both programs please?

Andrew,

All options under "Create Outlook Item" are greyed out. My version numbers
are as follows:

Outlook 2003 (11.6359.6360) SP1
OneNote 2003 (11.6360.6360) SP1

I do not know if this makes a difference or not, but I purchased OneNote
separately and after having already installed Office.

Regards,
Lon

Lon,

Thanks.

I have the same versions as you and installed in the same order. And
the options work for me.

Did you happen to upgrade Outlook from a previous version on your
machine? (I am fishing here. As I said it's not a problem I have seen
before.)

Andrew,

Fish away... No, this was a new installation. Since this seems to be a
problem unique to me, do you know how I can get help from Microsoft on this
issue without paying $35 to get it resolved?

OK, I am stumped! :)

MS folk do dip in to this newsgroup fairly regularly so simply waiting
a few hours might get you a definitive reply. Also other MVPs in time
zones west of me start waking up so new brains come to the problem
too. :)

In the meantime, I don't think you mentioned what operating system you
are using. XP? Which service pack? Always useful information.

Hi Lon,

I also have the identical versions and I use Windows XP Home SP2. Have you
tried the Detect and Repair settings in the Help menus of both products? If
not try the onenote one first.

Mike,

Sometimes it's the simplest things...

I wish I could give you more than this virtual handshake, but THANK YOU SO
VERY MUCH. Running the Detect and Repair was the answer. However, it was
running it in Outlook that made the difference. I wish I could tell you why.

Regards,
Lon
