I did something that was probably stupid and I'm looking for some help in how
I can recover.
Although I'm using Outlook 2007, I ran into the 2GB file size limit. Doing a
little research I discovered that my PST file was in the pre-Outlook 2003
format.
I Googled a solution to try to convert my file to the newer format that
allows a larger PST file. The method I used (from
http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_upgrade_my_outlook_pst_to_2003_format.html) was
roughly as follows:
1) Create a new PST file in Outlook 2007 format
2) Swap file names with my current Outlook XP formatted file
3) Open them both in Outlook
4) Drag-copy all of my emails in Outlook to the new file (that has the old
filename)
Everything appeared to work perfectly...until the new file started
downloading again *all* of my existing emails from the server. I messed
something up, and Outlook no longer recognized those emails as already having
been downloaded from the server. I double-checked and my account is set to
leave a copy on the server (which is what I want).
I have stopped the downloading at around a couple of hundred emails--it's a
pain, but I can manually delete them. What I need to do is to stop it from
downloading the others (and there are over 10,000 more that may get
downloaded).
I realize I probably did this the wrong way. Is it possible to get my
Outlook file to recognize that all of these emails have already been
downloaded? That would be my first choice.
If push comes to shove, I have a backup of my original Outlook XP file, so I
can try to do this "conversion" again.
I'm not very knowledgeable about mail "profiles"--from some other posts I
gather I probably messed up something having to do with recreating my profile.
Any help provided would be most appreciated. Thanks.
