Createdate Field Problem

A

A.C. Douglas

Hello.

Using Word 2000 SR-1. The fields CREATEDATE and CREATETIME both return the date
and time the file was last *modified* rather then the date and time it was
created.

Is there a trick here that I'm missing, or is this a known fault in Word 2000
SR-1?

TIA.

Have you reviewed the field codes (Alt + F9) and verified that these
are CreateDate and CreateTime fields?

If so then where are the files stored? Are you copying the files for
backup purposes? What virus scanner do you use?

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

Thank you for your response.

To answer your questions:
Have you reviewed the field codes (Alt + F9) and verified that these
are CreateDate and CreateTime fields?

Yes, and they are.
If so then [a] where are the files stored? Are you copying the files for
backup purposes? [c] What virus scanner do you use?

(a) A sub-folder under My Documents on Drive C (HD)
(b) Yes, onto a separate disc (Drive E) using Iomega Auto-Backup (IOW,
CREATEDATE and CREATETIME are NOT reading the copy, but the original on the HD)
(c) Norton AntiVirus 2003

No matter what I do in testing, CREATEDATE and CREATETIME always return the
date/time the file was modified (i.e., modified by changing only the content,
and no other file info) rather than the date/time the file was created.

It's quite frustrating, actually. Any further clues as to what might be causing
this?

I first suspect your Auto-Backup as the cause. Have you tried
disabling it and testing the CreateDate and CreateTime fields?

Just tracked down the problem. The files I was testing were all created and
saved by WORD as TXT files not DOC files. The fields return the correct create
date/time for files saved as DOC files, but insist on returning only the
modified date/time for all other file types even though created and saved by
WORD.

Sounds wrong to me, but there it is.

Thanks for your trouble in this matter. Much appreciated.

I wouldn't have thought that .TXT files could contain fields at all.
