CREATEDATE FORMAT IS IN GERMAN ONLY

D

Daniel Schaffer

I use Word 2003 running in WinXP Pro SP3.

In constructing a template for letters, I wanted to insert the CREATEDATE
field. When the program gave me a choice of formats for the date, they were
all in German! In the "insert date" choice of formats, the program had a
choice of German or English, but there's no such choice in CREATEDATE.

The rest of the program is still showing English.

I'd be grateful for suggestions.

Good luck, Dan

Which date formats are available when you insert a field depends on the
language formatting applied to the *text* where you are inserting the field.

Thank you.

My text was in English.

Note that the language can be set at the character level in Word (and it
sometimes changes unexpectedly if you let Word detect the language
automatically).

Thanks, I didn't know that. If I want to select the language myself, rather
than letting Word 2007 do it automatically, where in the program do I go?

Good luck, Dan

The first step is to turn off the automatic detection. On the Review tab,
click Set Language. Clear the "Detect language automatically" option, and
click OK.

Note that the instructions are targeted primarily at Word versions older
than Word 2007. The general principles still apply, though.
