Creatin a stencil

Dear All,

I am handling a project for a large telecom. I need to provide a customised
STENCIL for them to use it for creating network diagrams. How do I go about
creating one of my own with new shapes? Which version of VISIO i would
require for the same?

Please respond ASAP.

Any version of Visio will do. The file format for a Visio drawing, stencil,
template and workspace is the same. The only difference is in the file
extension used.

The easiest way to create a stencil is to create a drawing containing the
shpes you need and then use "Save As" to create a stencil.

Hi John,

Thanks for the response. However, my initial query is how to got about
creating the shapes? Can I create any MS image editor and then save the file
as visio file?
What are thfile extensions for the stencil files?

The Visio file format is proprietory, so only Visio can create the file.

Within Visio you can create Visio shapes or you can import graphic images
and use them as Visio shapes. Though the foriegn shapes do not have the same
functions as other Visio shapes like connection points, The foriegn shape
can be combined with an invisible Visio shape to add these features.
