Creating a Back Side to a Postcard for Mailing

L

LJV

I have Publisher 2003, Windows XP, SP3.

I have created a Postcard 4" x 6", and it is in vertical orientation on the
front side. The person would now like to put a return address and possibly a
message on the backside of this card.

My first question is do I just say insert a page within the same file and
put the return address and message there? This way it's all in one
publication. Or should I create a separate file to create the backside?

My second question is, does the backside need to be in Landscape
orientation even though the front is Portrait? From what I have gotten from
the Postal Service thus far, the backside needs to be in Landscape mode.

Thanks,

LJV

Is your printer setup for a 4 x 6 publication? Are you going to merge the names
and addresses?

If you are going to merge, I suggest you create two publications. Do the merge,
turn the card over and do the message from the separate file.

The most important step is the printer setup.

Hi Mary,

These cards will be printed via a commercial printer not a desktop printer.

And secondely, I will not be doing a mail merge. They just want their
Return Address and a message printed on the back of these cards. The message
and return address will be the same for all the cards.

Will I be able to insert a second page (backside of the card) into my
existing publication and have it display Horizontal (standard way, i.e. 4" x
6") even though the front of the card is displaying in Portrait orientation
(6" x 4")? Just so I can type the return address and message in there.

Or will I need to create a separate file for this?

Thanks for your post Don. I tried what you mentioned here and it works just
great. I don't think I would have thought of that myself ever. I would have
probably sat around for hours/days wondering how am I going to be able to
type sideways for gosh sakes. But, never forget that you can do about almost
anything with a text box - Ha! Even rotate it!

One last item, so then you cannot change the orientation of specific pages
within your publication by using Page Setup? It looks like Page Setup
applies to the whole Publication period.

And thank you too Mary! You are always a great help as well.

Thanks,

Lee
