I thought there was a ComboBox Wizard?
I can't seem to find it.
I am using Access 2000 and believe I have installed everything
Any clues

In design view, with the toolbox open (if it is not
already docked) enable the wizard tool (magic wand-appears
pushed in). Click the Combo Box tool. Drag the desired
field to the form from the field list. The wizard will
open.

Why does the wizard sometimes show the 3rd option for
finding records on a form and sometimes it does not??

Confused.

Apparently so. I've seen it, but when I just tried it on a database of
my own I don't.
Confused.

Me too!

Post back with some more details about what you want the combo to do.
If a wizard can't do it, maybe a Wysard (or another MVP) can...

Confused.

It seems to have something to do with what the form is based on. It always
shows for a table and shows for some queries but not others.
