Creating a directory booklet

john

I'm not even sure if Publisher is the way to go with this.
I have both Publisher 2003 and Word 2003.

I have checked help and can't figure out how to create
a directory booklet using 81/2x11 paper in landscape
mode so that there are 5 names per page.

Imagine 15 sheets of paper turned landscape and then
folded in half with the fold line on the left. The page edges are
on the right and so each page is turned to reveal both the
left and right next pages. Please forgive my laborious description. I
don't
know the technical terms.

The top page is the right side of the top sheet of paper. Page 2 is
the other side. But page 3 is the right side of the second sheet of
paper,... and so on.

So I'm trying to figure (have worked for hours)
how the word document will know how to correctly number the
pages (printing both sides) when I want 5 names (with addresses)
per page. I have mocked on up using cut and paste so I know that
it takes 15 sheets of paper.

Thanks for any help on how to do this.

That's a booklet and not a problem. Specifically what is the problem?

I haven't been able to get the pages (each page is 5 names) to appear
in the right place (so that they are in alpha order and on each page as it
is turned. The directions make it sound very easy. But I spent many (about
4 hours now) on it and it doesn't work for me. I don't know if I am
describing
it correctly but I definitely should have said that since it is a directory,
the names
are in alpha order.

Each sheet of paper can have a page to the left of the fold and a page to
the right of the fold and of course that is also true of the reverse side of
that
sheet of paper.

But when all 15 sheets of paper are folded together, page 2 and 3 are on
different sheets of paper. The way I am doing it, it is putting page 2 and
3
on the same sheet of paper.

In thinking about the problem, doesn't Publisher have to know the number of
pages in order to calculate the number of sheets of paper so that it can
print
the pages so that they are in the correct spot on each sheet???

I just went through this myself. To convince myself that it really was
working correctly I put page numbers on several blank pages and printed them
out...and it was correct. It took me 6 beers and a convincing from JoAnn
though :)

Page 2 and 3 are supposed to be on separate sheets. There's no way that 2
and 3 can be on the same one. At least not if you are doing it right.

Are you using a merge? Have you looked at the catalog merge instructions? If you
select booklet in page setup, your pages will be in the correct order. Publisher
uses pages in groups of four, so when you setup, you should have 16 pages, not
15.
Lots of help here:
