creating a link between worksheets

I am trying to create a link between 2 worksheets - the instructions given
are - Click the cell that contains the data you want to link to, and then
click Copy on the Standard toolbar. Click the cell you want to link from,
and then click Paste .
Click Paste Options and then click Link Cells.
Firstly do you click your source cell copy then go to your destination cell
and paste
Secondly i am unable to find paste options - i have turned it on and off in
options but can see no difference on toolbar
I have tried to copy(source) then paste special (destination), paste link.
The the link doesnt work and links still appears greyed out in edit

In the cell you want the reference in type = then go to the cell you
want to reference and press enter

It will look something like this
=Sheet1!D1

that is just saying one cell is equal to another but it is not creating a
link - link is still greyed out in the edit toolbar

The edit toolbar will only show links to other workbooks. Links withing a
single workbook, even to other sheets in that same workbook will not be shown
as a link.
