creating a macro in word 2007

Microsoft's instructions do no fully (in fact poorly!) explain how to create
a macro; for example: do you first select the "button" or the "keyboard" and
then type the text? Now after the text is typed in your open page and you
then stop the recording how do you save the input?, next, why does the macro
not work, is it because the normal template does not save the macro? What
does "run" mean? and why would you want to create the macro and not get the
correct name back? Please refer me to a simple explanation which shows step
by step how to build a macro, e.g., how do use selected text and where do you
put it. After spending so much money on WORD 2007, I don't see any
simplification over XP. Thank for any suggestions. Ed.

That is a personal preference. Do to want to run the macro by
selecting a button on the toolbar, or do you want to use a keyboard
shortcut?
Now after the text is typed in your open page and you
then stop the recording how do you save the input?, next, why does the macro
not work, is it because the normal template does not save the macro?

In the same window, there is a dropdown that shows that it's storing
the macro in Normal.dot. Unless this macro will be used on every
document you create, don't record it to normal. Select the the current
document in the dropdown. This way, the specific macro travels with
the document.

Once you stop recording the macro, the code generated is automatically
entered, either in the normal.dot - thisdocument, or Module 1 of the
new document. Simply save your document. If you've recorded the
macro to normal.dot, when tou exit Word, it will ask if you want to
save Normal.dot. Click yes.
What
does "run" mean?

Making the code run.
and why would you want to create the macro and not get the
correct name back?

Alt-F8 will bring up the list of macros. Also Tools->Macros->Macros
will bring up the same list.
Please refer me to a simple explanation which shows step

That is really beyond the scope of this newsgroup.

Simplification! Sounds like a salesman's buzzword. VBA, while easy
to use, is not simple.

Just like anything new, I can tell you until I'm blue in the face, but
you won't 'get it' until you do it yourself.

Invest in a good book. That's how I started.
