How do I create a new icon for use in shortcuts in my Desktop? I want to use a graphic of my own. I am using Windows XP and Office XP Professional Edition.
A graphics design program like MicroAngelo comes to mind. Or you can create
images using Paint Shop Pro for use on your icons.

I'm not sure if you are asking how to create the icon or how to modify the shortcut and utilize your own icon. If the latter then right-click the shortcut and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab you'll find the command for "Change icon".

Open MS Paint, create a new 32 by 32 pixel file, paint/color it as you
wish, Save As a 256 color bitmap, rename it from .BMP to .ICO. R-click
the "shortcut" select properties, Change Icon, browse to th ".ICO" file
you created, Select it, OK and then Apply and Ok.
