Creating a Portfolio Analyzer

hm

I have setup the Microsoft Project Server 2003 with SharePoint Services and
is currently trying to create a 'Portfolio Analyzer' view, however,
consistently I have been receiving the following error:

Unable to access the Microsoft Office Project Portfolio Analyzer
OLAP cube.
Possible Cause : The cube has not yet been built, or it is currently
being
generated, or you do not have permission to
access the
cube. Safety settings on this machine
prohibit accessing a
data source on another domain

I have visited some of the Microsoft Support sites and have performed the
following:

1) SQL Server and Analysis Server Service Packs have been installed
2) Office Web Components have been installed
3) Login user to the machine is a member of the OLAP Administrators
group
4) Have run the PSComplus.exe utility
5) Using 'Manage enterprise features', I have successfully created
an OLAP
cube in the Analysis Manager
6) Have provided the login user in 3) rights for the OLAP cube
7) Have migrated the Analysis Services repository to the SQL Server
8) Login user to the Project Server is a project server user account
9) Single Machine Installation

Another problem relating to 8):

1) Unable to login to Project Server using windows account unless
IIS has
disabled anonymous access
2) However, logging in to the Project Server using windows account
at
another terminal fails with no response

Please advise. Thank you.

HM,

I believe your issue with #8 is that you need to enable anonymou
access but also make sure that there is a check mark next to Integrate
Windows Authentication (near the bottom of the box).

Is that the error message you receive when you try to build the cub
through enterprise prj server?

Another problem relating to 8):

IIS has

at
another terminal fails with no response

Please advise. Thank you. [/B

Thanks for replying, I have tried doing that before as well. This will not
have any response unless I uncheck the anonymous which will then prompt me to
enter the window user credentials.

The error message that I have quoted in my earlier post is generated at the
proj server web access when I tried to create a new portfolio analyzer view.
Any idea?

I am also getting a similar problem. I am able to create a cube, but when I
try to create a Portfolio Analyzer view I receive the error that the user
doesn't have access to the cube or the cube doesn't exist.

Hi SW,

Did you receive the message that the OLAP Cube was successfully built in
the Update resource tables and OLAP cube page??

Are you logged in as Project Server Administrator when you try to create
a Portfolio Analyzer View?

Let us know...

Hi Rolly,

Good to hear from you.

I am able to create the cube and receive the "...sucessfully built.."
message in PWA when I am logged in as Administrator. I receive the error when
I try to create a new view as either Administrator or a Windows Authenticated
user.

I am currently running through the suggestions in KB324836.

Are there any trouble spots that may come up if SQL Server/Analysis Manager
are running in a cluster?

I am unable to directly work with any of the systems except the Project
server box due to security policies and must work through the tech support
onsite. So I'm trying to nail down exactly how they have the backend setup.

Hi Sean,

It sounds like the permissions aren't set on the OLAP cube.

Here's how you do it:
From the Analysis Services server:

1. Open Analysis Services-Analysis Manager.
2. In Analysis Manager, expand the console tree, expand to <OLAP Cube
Name>, right-click Database Roles and click Manage Roles.
3. In the Database Role Manager window, click New.
4. In the Create a Database Role window, complete the configuration by
using the following information and then click OK.

Role name: Type Portfolio
Membership: Click Add and add Active Directory Groups or Users:
Cubes: Click the Cubes tab and select the following Cube names:
MSP_ASSN_FACT
MSP_PORTFOLIO_ANALYZER
MSP_RES_AVAIL_FACT

Hopefully that should work for you.
Just let me know.

Hi Rolly,

I've had the the tech create a role in analysis manager. We added my testing
domain user and a group that consists of the project managers etc... I just
had them blow the role away and redo it step by step and we still receive the
error in PWA.

Thanks,

Sean

Rolly Perreaux

OK Sean
I love a good challenge :)

Can I safely assume that you have a separate SQL Server for your EPM
Solution?

Have you or your Tech migrated the OLAP repository to a SQL database?
And did you set the necessary permissions?

If you haven't, then try this:
I'm assuming you're using SQL Server 2000

1. Using SQL Server Enterprise Manager, create a new database called
Repository.

2. Creating a SQL Server OLAP Administrators account
a. On Enterprise Manager, expand the console tree to Security,
right-click Logins, and click New Login.

b. On the SQL Server Login Properties - New Login dialog box,
click the ellipse button (?) next to the Name box.

c. On the SQL Server Login Properties - New Login dialog box, in
the List Names From, select \\<SQL Server Name>*, select OLAP
Administrators, click Add and then click OK.

d. On the SQL Server Login Properties - New Login dialog box,
under Defaults select Repository from Database.

e. On the SQL Server Login Properties - New Login dialog box,
click Server Roles tab, and select the Security Administrators and
Database Creators check boxes.

f. Click the Database Access tab, select the Permit check box for
Repository, and in the Permit in Database Role, select the
db_owner check box and click OK.

g. Close SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

3. Migrate the SQL Analysis Services Repository

a. Open Analysis Services - Analysis Manager.

b. In Analysis Manager right-click <SQL Server Name> and click
Migrate Repository.

c. On the Migrate Repository Wizard page, complete the
configuration. When you get to "Which SQL Server database do you
want to use for the repository?" Select Repository, and then click
Finish.

4. Re-Build the OLAP Cube

Try that out

Hi Rolly,

Yes, it is running on SQL Server 2000

I had the admin recreate the OLAP Administrator account as you have
described.

I then built the OLAP cube and all is good. When I went to create a new
Portfolio Analyzer view, I still receive the error.

Rolly Perreaux

Hi Sean,

Question...
Is your Windows Authentication "Testing Account" also added in the
Project Server Administrators Group?

By default only Project Server Administrators have access to create
Portfolio Analyzer views and this account MUST BE a Windows
Authenticated account in order to access the OLAP cube since the
permissions can only be configured to use Windows Accounts (Users or
Groups)

Hope this helps

Cheers,

Hi Rolly,

Everything is working now. The issue seemed to be with the domain remote
users (citrix) were apart of. When I had people test onsite the Portfolio
Views worked without a hitch. After some tweaks with the permissions etc.
remote users were able to use the Portfoio views aswell...

Thanks again!!!

Sean
