Creating a PWA site

Bharathi Gopal

While create a PWA site, I got two options, one was the Default Web site
option and the other was the Host Application option. I am not sure which one
to select for creating the PWA site.

These are the steps that we performed to configure Project Server:
Configured Farm Services
Created a new web application
Created a web application for host application
Created the Shared service provider.
Started Creating a PWA site .

I found out that if the default web site option is selected, the url of the
pwa site is http://project-server/pwa (pwa being the name of the PWA site we
created)

The URL we got by selecting the host application was:
http://project-server:21657/pwa

Is it right to create the PWA site without the port number? Which is the
correct method for creating a PWA site?

it's often easier to start by deleting the default website before you start
the installation, so as not to get into this confused state.

4 web sites are created in total during the installed, central admin, office
services, shared services provider (SSP) and host application (PWA).

once you've ran the initial installation you will have the central admin
site.

you then need to create two additional sites, one for PWA (Host app) and one
for SSP. The PWA has a site collection whilst the SSP site does not. This
is done via the central admin/create application page.

The PWA (Host app) site can be created on either the default web site (if
you've not deleted it), or a new web site. If you don't want to use the
default website and don't want to use a port number in the URL, you will have
to use a host header. To save confusion, delete the default web site before
install and create a new web site using port 80 if desired, when creating the
web app.

Once the SSP is created and the PWA site extended with a site collection,
you create the PWA instance on the PWA site.

Hope this clears things up?

Thanks for the response Paul. I have created the PWA site based on the
Default web site that is, port number 80. Now I have another problem. I am
not able to create enterprise resources from this PWA site. I get a Windows
Account invalid error message. I have checked the user names in the Active
Directory Domain Controller and the user names are all available. Can you
figure out where the problem is?

Bharathi,

I agree with Paul's method. But I still think you must leave the default Web
site as it is and only change the port number to say 88 or any other. Now
when you create a PWA site it is created with the default port no 80. After
this you should concentrate only on this web site. I am sure you will have no
problems. You can try this.

In your current situation the best way is to uninstall and re-install PS if
the situation allows you to do so.
