creating a template from another program

I was wondering if I can create a Word template from another program's
file? I have already designed a letterhead in Freehand, can I some how
convert it to a template for Word? Or should I start from scratch at
Word?
thanks

Export from Freehand as Macintosh eps (selected objects only)
I *think* Mac eps is the right one. It has been a while since I did my
letterheads that way from Freehand 10. It's easy enough to experiment.
Complain if my advice is bad, tell me which version of Freehand you
have and I will revise my lies.

Then, in Word, with show header and footer, insert picture from file.
It may look horrible on screen, but will print beautifully to a
Postscript printer.

Don't be overenthusiastic with Freehand gradient or lens fills. Not all
of them make their way through eps, Word and all printer drivers.

If you want save as pdf to look better than your on-screen eps
previews, print to postscript file and then ask preview.app to save as
pdf. That gets round an embarassing mismatch somewhere on the MS-Apple
border.

ps Say hello to Mt Hutt for me. I love that hill.

Hi Beth,
I tried export it as JPEG and insert in a blank word document, but it
doesn't work as a template? and I also tried RTF, but text comes out
rearranged and some of them cut off! Is there something else I need to
do after inserting the image?
Thank you!

Hi Jen:

Look up "Template" in the Word Help. There's an extra step you need to go
through to create a template.

However, for your application, I do not recommend a Template. I would
instead look up "stationery" (check your spelling :)) in the Mac Help. I
think that will be more suitable to your need.

Further, you need to know that when you export from Freehand, you export
only the picture, not its position on the page. You need to position the
picture correctly after you insert the picture into Word. The Word help
explains how to position pictures.

If you are making a letterhead, I would follow Elliott's advice and use EPS
as your file format. JPEG is not really suitable for printing to a
high-quality printer.

Cheers
