Creating a To do list with Time tracking/Time stamp

Hello,

I was trying to create a "to do" Checklist for tasks we do in our department
with time stamping.

We wanted create a list with check boxes and when the user marks the task as
completed by checking the box, OneNote would automatically add the date and
time stamp next to the item just like when you press "alt-shif-f".

Does anyone know how to do this in OneNote?

[just thinking out loud here]

If you are up to it, you could create a powertoy to do this subject to a few
caveats:

1. The API OneNote exposes does not fire events for changes on a page. What
this means is that you would have a toolbar button to push to add the data to
the page.
2. I'm not sure where you would want the name of the person who checked the
box and the time stamp added.

[] this is a line item

[] this is a second line item
with extra data
(and imagine an image here)

[] and the final, third item

Where would you expect the information to show?

3. I haven't double checked, but I think each line item in an outline only
has one author tag associate with it. In this case, if Alice checks off item
1, then Bob checks off item 3 and clicks the "update" button, I suspect only
Bob's name will show (albeit the time stamp for completion time would be
preserved).

And as a tester, I can see several other cases which would make keeping up
with user names fragile.

Do you use Outlook? If so, you can tag items in OneNote with task flags and
make tasks in Outlook - they may provide a better tracking mechanism.

Outlook does, as I recall, store the date/time completed (or at least
marked complete) for task items. So yes, my instinct is that Outlook
may be his best workaround in this scenario.

Thanks guys!,

the assignment name wasn't so important, in that I just wanted to tie the
check box and date and time stamp functionality together. In the situation we
are looking to use ON for, we have two people assigned to a case file, each
person is responsible for specific parts of the case that are interdependent
on each other so I was trying to create a to list so when the user completes
their part and checks the box the date and time automatically fills in. This
just gives a reference to track turnaround times, yes someone could fudge it
and check it early but wasn't looking for strict controls in this instance,
just a quick reference. Not sure the Outlook task workaround would work as it
would require the user to set up the task then check it off but will play
around with it and see.

I was hoping there was a way to modify the tags somehow to tie the calendar
and time to a check box. Oh well.
