I am writing an automated document creation system for a complex legal
document. It will need a TOC, and they would like the ability to use Word's
outline levels feature for both the outline view of the document and the
TOC, while at the same time they would like the option of replacing the TOC
entry for any given heading level (which they may decide is to long or
complex for a TOC) with their own summary.
I understand that I could make it easy for them to add a TC field code, but
I think what I'm asking is how then do I supress the particular heading from
appearing in the TOC, while leaving it in the document and having it show in
the outline view?
I am also a little wary of using TC codes as these users will not be all
that sophisticated (their attorneys after all ), and they may edit the
heading text and not understand why their changes aren't reflected in the
TOC.
thanks.
