Creating a watermark

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)

Something has happened to my Word 2004 menus. A few weeks ago I was able to create a watermark using the insert menu (just like it intructs me to do in "Help"). Now when I go to the insert menu, the "watermark" option is no there. Was this eliminated in a recent update? If so can I find it elsewhere?

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert -

Certainly not removed by the update, but Word is fairly well known for menus
& toolbars to be errant on occasion:) The first step to putting it right
when it happens - assuming you have not done any Menu customizations - is
Tools>Customize> Customize Toolbars/Menus. On the Toolbars page click the
name of the Menu Bar then click the Reset Button.

If you do have customizations or if that doesn't work for you the command
can be added back manually or the entire menu item can be replaced through
that same Customize dialog. Post back if you have any questions.

I tried that as well, same thing, I looked up how to do a watermark in the
help menu, it says go to "insert" and then "watermark" but there is no
watermark! Further, I tried your suggestion to go customize toolbars, when I
click on insert and it shows all the options, watermark isn't there either. I
have office for mac, does that make a difference? Why have it in the help
menu when it's not even an option?

Hi Sari:

What makes a difference is the "Version" of Word that you have. You haven't
told us that, so we can't really answer.

The "Watermark" is simply a WordArt placed in the header of the document.

Click in the header and use Insert>WordArt if you do not have
Insert>Watermark.

You don't have to use WordArt, any picture will do. The key is to format it
so that it is "Behind the text". Look up "Watermark" in the Help for
precise directions.

Cheers
