Creating a web page with Publisher

W

William McCarthy

The web preview and the exported page did not have the
text wrapped around the pictures that was created using
Publisher 2002. In fact the pictures ended up on top of
the text, and on the web page itself the pictures, on top
of the text, were the little red x outlines.

PUB2002: Text Does Not Wrap When Viewed as a Web Page
View products that this article applies to.
This article was previously published under Q279392
SYMPTOMS
In a text box with text that wraps to the left or the right of an object,
such as a picture, the text does not wrap when you view the text box in Web
Page Preview (on the File menu), or when you publish the document as a Web
page to a Web site. Depending on the positions of the object and text box,
the text either covers the object or disappears behind it.
CAUSE
The new Publisher 2002 workspace allows any publication to be viewed as a
Web page. However, not all features that can be used in a printed document
are converted to Web page format. The text wrap settings are intended for
use with printed documents.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Modify the layout of your publication so that it does not require wrapped
text.
Method 2
Replace the affected objects with an enhanced metafile (EMF). To do this,
follow these steps:
1.. Click to select your text box. While holding CTRL, click each of the
objects that the text wraps around until all of the objects are selected.
Click the Group icon.
2.. Right-click the grouped object, and then click Save as Picture.
3.. Click Enhanced Metafile.
4.. Save the picture to the location that you want on your computer's hard
disk.
5.. Insert the saved picture by pointing to Picture on the Insert menu,
and then clicking From File.
6.. Delete the original objects from the page.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products
that are listed at the beginning of this article.
