creating a web page

O

Old Bob

My son is a DJ and would like a web page for his business. I am pretty good
with the pc but know nothing of html and front page (the programs it seems
you us to create one). I could use a little guidance to help him(or me as I
am sure I am the one going to do this). If I am correct, I need to register
the web site address (domain) I would like to use at "register.com". You pay
for that by the year or years and pick a .com, .net. or .whatever you want.
Then you have to create the web site page(s) somehow. I also see lots of web
page creator sites that will let you create a web page from templets that you
can adjust somewhat and then you pay them on a monthy basis $5-$15 depending
on the number of page(s) your site ends up to be.

Yep, register the domain, then pick a host, then point the domain to the
host (sometimes takes 24hrs). Then design away. Personally I'd avoid the
prefab template "deals" and do it yourself. Sometimes host's have templates
for free which may not be a bad idea to get you started,....or not.

Hello,

You don't have to use register.com. For pure domain registrations, I
recommend Namecheap.com or Godaddy.com.

Many hosting companies provide free domains with their plans for first time
users. You may want to make use of them.

Find reputable hosting companies at http://www.webhostingtalk.com, an online
forum.

Most hosting companies also support FrontPage Extensions, but do check
before deciding on one.

For web hosting and domain name registration, 1and1 rocks.

They've got a $2.99/month plan which includes a domain name, 10 Gb web
space, 300 Gb of traffic

Good tech support plus Frontpage extensions.

I've been with them for 3 years and been very happy with their service.

thanks for all your suggestions. I did find a canned place on webpiston to
see if a canned program could do it for me. After all kinds of hours and
designing I found out that the home page will not fit on an 800x600 screen
due to the boxes indicating the pages and YOU CANNOT move those boxes..so
that's out. I do not want my customers having to slide left and right to
see the homoe page. Other canned programs do offer a domain and trial but
you cannot get into the trial to see if it has the same problem unless you
register and pay.
So my search and education continues..seems that getting my DOMAIN at the
same place as my HOST would be the way to go and maybe I do have to buy and
learn Front page...I'll keep up reading all the links you all
provided....Thanks

this might seem an odd question, but where do I get the program "Front Page"?
I cannot seem to find it even on the microsoft page search..

First of all I want to second the nomination above for 1and1.com.

Good pricing and good support. Just go to 1and1.com and check them
out. Free domain registration with web hosting on the business plan
for 10 bucks a month. Up to 3 domains on the same plan.

If you are looking for Frontpage 2003 and you can't find a retailer
with it on the shelves or at a PC show in your area you can always
find it on eBay.

Hello,

FrontPage is replaced by Expression Web. "After nine years of being an
award-winning Web authoring tool, FrontPage will be discontinued in late
2006."

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/frontpage/default.aspx

Amazon.com has two third party sellers for FrontPage 2003, if you are still
insist on getting FrontPage.

I am opinionated and I know it. My advice is FREE and like all such advice it's worth exactly what you pay for it.

CompUSA is closing a lot of stores...depending on what area...out here
they're all closing and everything is being sold at discount. I saw FP2003
at one store last week...probably a left over.
