Creating a Word Template with Text Box Fields

Is it possible to create a Word template with text boxes that people can fill in? I'm trying to create a questionnaire template and rather than just use ________________ for each answer section and having it throw off all the formatting and layout, I'd love to have fixed-width text input boxes. Is this even possible?

Generally, this is more trouble than it is worth.

Did you try Insert>Text box?

When you insert a text box, it will have a fixed width. However, if the
user keeps typing, what they type will disappear off the bottom of the text
box.

To produce a genuine fixed-width text box, you need macros, and Word 2008
doesn't have any.

I suggest that you investigate a table. A two-column table will suffer a
lot less damage when users run off at the keyboard, and they're quick and
easy to create.

Cheers

If you insert text boxes will the other text be protected? I am trying to create a fillable file but don't want participants to be able to change the questions, etc.

Thanks.

Did you read the last paragraph of John's reply? Using *tables* is the most
effective means of creating a Form.

Protection in Mac Word is applied on a "by section" basis, not a "piece by
piece" basis. If a Text Box is in a protected section it will not be usable,
if it's in an unprotected section everything in the section will be
editable. See the series of articles on Form design starting here:
