Creating an editable keyword list?

Hi all brand new here, looking forward to finally figuring out Excel.

My question is about creating a keyword list. This is what I would like to do and am hoping someone will (please) walk me through Excel to create this.

I would like to create two columns; first column a check mark column, the second a long list of keywords. Then I would like to go down the long list of keywords placing check marks not contiguously on rows that correspond to the keywords I want and create an action to be able to output a list of those keywords into a text file without changing the original Excel file and not having the check marks.

I seem to be missing how to do this. Can someone please help. Thanks Jeff

I can think of a few ways, but it depends on what you want your text file to
look like. Do you want a long comma delimited list? Or, each word on a
separate line? How long is a "long list of keywords"? This is pretty easy to
do in a macro or perhaps an applescript. It's a little trickier using just
Excel functions.

I think the simplest way to do it is with the AutoFilter, which you can
activate from the Data / Filter menu. Small double arrows will appear in
each cell of the first row.

In your first column, type a character (any will do) in the cell on the left
of the keywords you wish to export. Then click on the double arrow in the
first cell of the first column and select from the little menu either the
character you entered or (Show NonBlanks). All you have to do now is select
all visible entries from the second column, copy, switch to your text file
and paste. To select a long range of contiguous cells you can click on the
first cell and press Shift-Ctrl-DownArrow.

To change your keywords selection, select (Show All) from the AutoFilter
list.

Thanks for those replies, using the autoFilter and copy works however ultimately I need to create a comma delimited list with the selected keywords. Anyway to automate this?

The list is relatively small under a thousand words with the selects averaging about 100 words however its a process that must be repeated multiple times (1000+) so any automation would be very helpful.

Thanks again for any insights & or advice. jeff
