Creating background

D

Daniel Lamarche

Hi. I would like to know if it's easy to create new backgroung so that they
behave just like the standard ones.

If I would drag a background on my drawing I would like it to ask me if I
want to make the sape the background for this page.

Thanks in advance.

that's the way it works already kinda. visio allows you to create two kinds
of pages, background and foreground. if you create a foreground page you
have the opportunity to identify a background page to go with it.

Thanks Al but my question wasn't clear I guess.

What I want to do is to create an image that I can store in the Background
stencil and then reuse later. When I reuse it it will asks me if I want to
use it as a background, create a page VBackgroung and fill the page. Exactly
like the other bagroung in the Background stencil.

Any idea. I have the book Visio Inside Out here and there is nothing about
this topic.

Thanks

I guess the question is are you really trying to create a background (i.e.
an image that does not get interacted with) or are you trying to create a
template (an image that does real work). If you have a background page
created already in your document, then when you create a new foreground
page, you identify which background page you want to associate with it.(i.e
insert new page and the second line of the dialog asks which background to
use with it).

Thanks Al for taking the time to answer to my question. We are getting there
Al. I will ask it again and try to make it clearer.

When you open the Backgroung stencil it contains some background images. If
you drag one over your document you are asked if you want to use this
background. Then the user clicks Yes. Right? I'm sure you're familiar with
the Backgroung stencil.

What if I want to customize this stencil and create my own that behave
exactly the same as the ones supplied by Visio. I want to use my logo with
some pale image as a background and add it to the Background stencil. In the
future when I create a new drawing I want to be able to open the Background
stencil and drag me own. It should behave the same as the ones supplied by
Visio.

Thanks again for your time. If one day you have a question about Excel or
Access I will return the favor.

if you open the background stencil (backgr_u.vss) and then open one of the
masters for editing you will notice that the page size is almost exactly
8.5x11, which happens to be the size of the default page used in the US
version of visio. The stencil merely copies the page from the stencil to the
drawing and then labels it as a background page. It then flags the existing
page and points to it so that it can be used. You can either put your own
picture in the stencil (directions I think are still in the help facility)
or just put it in the document yourself.
Sorry for the taking so long to understand what you wanted to do,
Al

Try copying one of the existing backgrounds, then editing it to change just the image to what you want. The behavior is controlled on the Shapesheet, so be careful not to make changes there
