creating columns in Word

I have word X for Mac. Until the last several months I could create any
number of columns of any width - I've already forgotton whether it was
under "Format" or Insert" - I think "Format". I think it was also in the
"Formatting Palette". It was a menu that allowed you to pick the
number of columns, the column width, whether the columns were
equal or not, etc.

One day, several months ago, when I tried to make coliumns (not
something I do often), "2 Columns" was on the toolbar along the top
but nowhere else. "Help" tells me it should be an icon for "Columns",
not the words "2 Columns" - it's not. It only allows for 2 columns, no
other options

What happened? Can I get my old "Columns" back?" I just found this
site and tried updating Word - this didn't hlep.

The menu should show up under Format | Columns.

If it isn't there, if you go to Tools | Customize, select the Menu Bar, and
click Reset, it should set all your main menus and built-in toolbars back to
the default.

If you have customized your menus or toolbars, you may want to explore the
Tools | Customize, Commands dialog, and drag the commands you are missing
back to the toolbars/menus yourself.
