creating continuous numbered list from mail merge

L

Lauren B.

My organization has a database that stores template forms in Word, where we
can export info from the database as needed into these Word docs. The Word
documents need to be formatted as numbered lists, but I cannot figure out how
to export them into one continuous list that is numbered consecutively. As it
stands there is only one entry per page, with each page starting over as
number 1.

I have read the comments about using "Directory" when doing a mail merge,
but this is not something I can do because our database is not an Excel list
or an Outlook contact list. There is no list until I search the specific
criteria needed and export it from our huge general database. It's not a
separate document.

Can anyone help me with this? I need to entries to export in a consecutively
numbered list that is continuous and does not only put one entry per page.
Please help!

A Directory type mail merge can be created with any type of data source. It
does not have to be an "Excel list" or "Outlook Contact list"

Just change the type of the mail merge main document to a Directory type
main document.

You may want to use a <<Merge Record #>> field to get your seqeuntial
numbering.

Note however that everything that you have on the mail merge main document
will be repeated for every record in the data source, so this may not give
you exactly what you are after, depending upon what that is.

If you tell us more about the data that you are starting with and what you
want to create, we may be able to provide more appropriate assistance.
