Creating MDE error "Main Menu Format"

S Bott

I have been surfing this site as the benefits of a MDE vs. MDB. I feel that
moving my database into an MDE is the right choice. The database has been in
production for 2 months now. The users all use Access 2003, although I use
Access 2007 and just use the database in compatiability mode. I now want to
make the FE an MDE file. But when I attempt to use the wizard [Make MDE] I
receive this error message:
"You cannot create a Directory Main Menu ADE or MDE file from a database
saved in Directory Main Menu 2000 format. Convert the database to the
current version of the Directory Main Menu. Then create the ADE or MDE file."
Does this mean that in order to create an MDE file that I have to convert
the dbase to 2007 (which I don't want to and can't do)? Is there a way
around this?

Thanks in advance

If your users are using 2003 and you want to create a 2003 mde, you will have
to do it in 2003. 2007 can only create an accde file (accde is the
equivalent of mde in previous versions)

That's a confusing error message. You need to do is convert the MDB
to Access 2002/2003 format as it is currently in A200 format and then
you can make the MDE. Tools >> Database Utilities >> Convert
Database >> To Access 2002 - 2003 file format.
