Creating OLAP Cube

B

BJH

I'm relatively new to Project Server and I've inherited a database that was
initiated by an intern last summer. I've been trying to set up some Portfolio
Analyzer views but an error message saying that the OLAP cube has not bee
created.

When I go to 'Manage Ent Features' and begin the rebuild process, all I see
under status is that the process was initiated..... How long does this
normally take? I only have one project published, but when I tried to rebuild
the OLAP cube last Friday I saw the same message for 3 days. I am the
administrator with full access.

Any ideas on what may be causing this to get hung up? Is there a way I can
check to see if Analysis Services were loaded?

Hi BJH,

well I can assure you that it doesnt take 3 days :)
You should check that you actually have a connection to Analysis Server. Can
you please check that Analysis Server is installed and if so, can you see a
connection called "ProjectServer" ( or simular) if not, then it indicates
that the OLAP Cube has never been set up.
If this is hte case you may want to rever to the Admin or deployment Guide
which can be found on the Microsoft site. this will tell you how to set it up.
Hope this helps

Marc,

Thanks for the reply . I've been told the Analysis Services is installed.
How do I check to see if I can see the connection?

Hi BJH,

the easiert way is to go to the Admin Tab wihtin PWA, click on "Manage
enterprise features". Under teh OLAP Cube name and description should be
inforamtion regarding your Analysis Server, cube name and description. If
this is not the case, then you will need to enter this information. Then
click on "update now" ( button at the bottom of the page) and see if the cube
is building. should this be successful, then you have build the cube, should
this be unsuccesfull, you will get an error message on this page under
"current Cube Status". Please give me the error message and we can see what
we can do.
Thanks
Marc

Hi Marc,

That's the way I have been viewing, so we're on the same page so far....

I get the following popup when I click Update Now:

“VBScript: Microsoft Office Project Web Access 2003:
The Process for updating the resource availability tables and cube
generation has been started. This process can take a significant amount of
time depending on the volume of data. You will not be able to access the cube
until the cube generation has been completed.
Note that any changes made to the settings on this page have been saved. “

When I click "Ok", The Current Cube status is "The cube building process
was initiated on 11/9/2006 at 10:23 AM".

This is where I'm hung up, because I have not received any error messages
that the cube generation has failed, the status of "initiated" doesn't
change. I tried to build a view, but I cannot until the cube has been built.

Any thoughts?

Hi BJH,

I have seen this problem before and there are multiple ways of solving it.
This is the first thing I would try:

Go into Analysis Services, Delete the Project Server Connection. ( dont
worry, the cube will be rebuild each night anyway). Go into PWA and try to
rebuild the cube. This could solve the problem.

if it doesnt, you will need to use the ComPlus tool to "re-initiate" the
OLAP Cube Com Plus. Try the first suggestion first and let me know if this
worked if not, I can lead you through the PomPlus tool.
Hope this helps
