creating recipes using table in word

Can you tell us why you feel you need a table layout to type a recipe? I
type recipes all the time and have never used a table.

I want the table to make the columns for the ingredients
but do not know how to finish for the directions part,
getting it out of the table.

Hi Karen,

Once you have finished inserting the ingredients, merge the cells in the
next empty row so that you get a homogenous area in which to .you mix
process the ingredients.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps

Following the table there will be an empty paragraph into which you can type
the directions (you could merge cells as Doug suggested, but you'd still
have an empty paragraph after the table). Display nonprinting characters
(Ctrl+*) if you have trouble finding the empty paragraph.

FWIW, I don't use a table for the ingredients. Instead, I type them all in a
single column, then select the list and put them in two (snaking) columns
using the Columns button on the Formatting toolbar. This has the advantage
that you don't have to establish ahead of time where the list will break,
and it's easier to use ordinary paragraph formatting for the list (hanging
indents, Space Before/After, etc.).
