Creating Sites for Projects

G

Gillian Manson

Hi,

I hope someone can help. It has us baffeled here. We have just moved our
Project Server to a new wizzy server. After a number of attempts we have
Project server running, showing all of the sites and settings working fine.
the problem we have now is that we are unable to create sites for these
projects.

As the Project Server is on the same host as Sharepoint it has a different
url to the old server.

http://servername:8083/projectserver/

I have updated all of the urls in the sites table in SQL to the new
servername.

In the Manage Sharepoint Sites in Project Server I can see all of the
project names (but there are no site addresses).

Public Documents has a site address but when I click on the url i get a Page
cannot be found error.

I try to create a site for one of the projects and get a error messgae:

Error occurred when creating site. Site does not seem to exist.

When I click the ok on the message it returns me to the Sharepoint Services
sites again.

Help please, we are going round in circles here!!!

Not sure this is the solution, I had the same error and did the
following. Something for you to try anyway.

I found that when I was on the site provisioning page and tried to save

the current settings it told me there was a problem with the account. I

went to the WSS server and added my domain account name to the admin
group and the problem was solved!

Thanks for that Idea but this will not work. The server which both Project
Server and WSS is a domain controller. We are unable to add in domain
accounts to Administrator group.

Thanks anyway.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Hi Gillian,

You need to add your WSS service account to the Power Users or local
administrators group. However, because you have installed Project Server
and WSS on a domain controller you will need to add the account to the
Domain Admins group

BTW, installing Project Server and WSS (essentially web servers) is not
considered a security best practice. Just thought you should know...

Can you move Project Server and WSS to another server?

Cheers,

Hi,

And thanks to all that helped. After two days of solid headaches we have
found the solution to the problem.

Although we already had an account in the owner section (with email) and it
was in the Domain admins group. We also have had to add in the secondary
owner we put in our network managers account details (of which he is already
in the domain admins group). This fixed the problem.

Thanks again.

This was the solution for me as well. Is this a bug? Why would an optional
field add any permissions to create sites?

This worked for me as well... how crazy is this.
