Creating Templates in Word 98

Is there a detailed resource - online or print - on how to create
templates in Word/Office 98? I'm attempting to create a newsletter,
and, although there are a few existing templates within Word, none fit
my needs. In addition, I can't find satisfactory instructions how to
delete or modify some of the formatting within the existing templates.

Thanks.

I'm too far away from Word 98 to give you the best advice, but I'll try. I
assume you checked Word's Help on creating a template (and on styles)? Help
has improved with subsequent releases of Word but you should find at least
the basics.

Anyway, the simplest way to create a custom template is to create an
ordinary Word document that has all of the formatting you want to retain,
and then save it as a Word template. You'll find this option in the Save or
Save As dialog. (The default is to save as a Word document but you can
change this.) You can delete all but small samples of the text just to
remind you what each section/style looks like.

As for more detailed advice, check Amazon.com for a used copy of the "Office
98 Bible" by LeVitus, Shadovitz, et al. That should do it.

While it's not Word98 specific, I recommend

http://www.word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/CreateATemplatePart1.htm

http://www.word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/CreateATemplatePart2.htm

You'll need to do some mental translation (e.g, MacWord templates don't
require the ".dot" extension), but the process is extremely valuable.
