Creating Visio FORMS in v.2003?

J

John-Paul Cuneo

Hello

In the previous versions of Visio I've used (2000 and XP) there was an
excellent form creation aspect of Visio that I came to rely on quite
heavily... and now in version 2003 this option seems to be gone! Does
anybody know if it's still possible to use Visio to create forms, and if so
how?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

That set of shapes was removed from the product unfortunately. There are
several similar shapes in the Charting Shapes and Title Blocks stencils. If
you still have Visio 2002, you could use the Forms Shapes stencil from that
version in Visio 2003.

I would be very interested to hear what shapes are particularly useful to
you in form creation. Perhaps we need to make them available again.

Thanks for responding to my post Mark!

First I still have the MS Visio XP CD... do I have to install it again in
order to retrieve the Forms Shapes stencil, or can I simply explore the CD
and copy/paste them into some dir in the 2003 version? Could you please
explain how to do this?

Secondly, to be quite honest... I use most of the shapes all the time (I'm
pretty sure that I've used all of them at some point or another). I'm a
project engineer and I make forms ranging from SOP's & project charters to
general audits which are used by all levels of plant personnel in MS Visio.
I've found no easier program to make these forms in and to do so with such
ease where the resulting work looks very professional. I would very much
like to see the Form creation aspect of Visio fully restored.

I look forward to your reply

Many Thanks

There are still some nice Title Block shapes under the "Visio Extras"
stencil directory/menu.

I believe the automated form building tool, where you right-click to add
rows, etc. was removed.

Digitall

Open folder NameOfFile_files.
In this folder open frameset.js
and delete "&& e.ctrlKey" from 113 row
"if (e != null && e.ctrlKey && frmToolbar.widgets &&
frmToolbar.widgets.Details)"
Now, just click, without Ctrl key.

I believe you can browse the CD, though I don't know the path. At some
level it would look like the install path on your hard disk (Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Visio10\1033\Solutions\Forms and Charts). Note that
the directory names on the CD are often shortened, so don't look for exactly
that path.

Once you get them, put them into your MyShapes directory (under
MyDocuments).
