Creating weekly executive status reports using EPM

My client needs a weekly executive level report of project status for the 90+
active projects in the organization. For each project, the following data is
needed:
-- project ID
-- project name
-- project status (red, yellow, green)
-- descriptive status (short text description ~ 20 words or less)

The client wants the following requirements met:
-- project managers can update this status for each project directly from
Microsoft Project Professional and/or PWA
-- a report can be generated that shows the above 4 fields for all projects
-- a history of status changes can be viewed for each project (i.e. you
can look to see what the particular status was for a given project at any
time in the project's history)

Any ideas on ways to implement this within Project Server 2003 with minimal
custom code? It doesn't seem that the out-of-the box
Status Report features of the product accommodate my clients' request.

Thank you.

We were able to get this done using ASP pages and did not have to extend the
tables, but we do save periodic reports offline for historic purposes.
