Critical Task and Bar Format

To format my bars throughout the schedule I select the Task Name column and
then I select Format | Bars from the main menu. I then click on the Text tab
and I select % Complete for left, Resource Name for top and Name for right.

My problem is that whenever a task becomes critical, it overwrites the
formatting I previously set leaving unreadable garbled text near the bar.

I am using MS Project 2002 Pro

What am I missing??

Format menu /bar styles
scroll down to the critical bar
click on the text tab
remove whatever text is displayed for it.
