Cropping Country

L

Linda Adams

I'm working on a map of the world, and one of the countries is partially off
the page. In PowerPoint, if something like that happens, I just use the crop
tool to crop the excess. Is this possible in Visio?

Thanks!

Hi Linda,

Visio only supports cropping for "Foreign objects" (stop rolling your eyes)

That means only bitmaps, metafiles, etc. If you want, you could copy your
whole map, then Edit > Paste Special > Paste as metafile. Then you'll be
able to crop it, but it won't have Visio shape behavior anymore. Plusses and
minusses for this suggestion...

You could also ignore the problem, since whatever is off the page won't get
printed, you could resize your drawing page, or you could use Fragment to
crop the shape.

If you draw a line segment across the shape where you want it cropped,
select the line segment and the shape, and then do Fragment, then your shape
will get broken in two where the line segment intersected it. You can then
delete the part you don't want. Any special properties of the shape will be
lost as a result of the Fragment operation(including formatting), but if
it's a country shape I assume that's not a big deal.

Fragment on a shape as complex as a country could be quite processor /
memory intensive.

I did try Fragment and had a general lack of success. It tended to freeze
up
my computer, and when it did work, it simply changed the image to an
outline.
