Hi,
I am a technical writer who works quite a lot with diagrams using these
cross-functional bands in Visio 2003. I also work with a large group of
business and IT people who create documents using these shapes, and they
often come to me frustrated by them.
I have come across many scenarios (like a tester) and found several items
that could improve these shapes:
1. Deleting a swim-lane deletes the shapes inside of them. Ok, but even if
you move your shapes in the drawing to the gray area outside of the swimlane,
when you delete the swimlane, the shapes that were once in it are deleted too.
2. We should be able to minimize the height or delete the horizontal header
(included below the title bar), if we need to make more room on our page. But
if we do delete that bar (and do not include a title bar) then we can not
move or expand the swimlanes.
3. Copying diagrams with smim-lanes to new sheets or files, often distorts
the original drawing, removing arrows, switching swimlanes etc.
Anyways, it would be great if you could make a patch for these items, let me
know if it ever occurs, the staff here would love me.
Thanks.
