Cross Project Link question

L8rdays

Hi,

Is there anyway to allow a user to do the following.
Owns and has access to PROJECT A
Can see PROJECT B in PWA, but can't open in MS Project Pro

Any way for the user to link a predessor from B to A?

Meaning his task 8 in PROJECT A can't start until task 1 completes in
PROJECT B.

The answer is yes to your first question. Your description of the need is
to general, however, that I won't even attempt to hazard a solution. Do you
mean that the project manager can see ONLY project B in the Project Center,
or that he/she can see everyone else's projects in the Project Center? Say
more about your specific need and I will try to give you a more specific
solution.

The answer is no to the second question. A user must be able to open both
projects Read/Write in Project Professional 2007 to be able to set a
cross-project dependency. If you really need for users to set cross-project
dependencies, then this need nullifies your need in the first question you
asked. Or the restriction you mentioned in the first question nullifies the
need required in the second question.

In other words, you cannot have it both ways. :) Hope this helps.

There is nothing to stop yo from inserting Project A (read\write) into
a master plan, then inserting Plan B (read only) into the same master
plan. Create a dependency from B plan task to A plan task. Save Plan
A and discard Plan B. Clearly you only have half the relationship
defined but this is sufficient for Plan A to respond to Plan B
changes. It would be sensible to communicate with the other plan
oener and complete the relationship.

Based on the L84days' first question (can see Project B in PWA, but can't
open in MS Project Pro), the only problem with your solution is that the
user cannot see or open Project B in Project Professional 2007. So, there
is no way the user could create a cross-project dependency. Hope this
helps.

Hi Dale

Yor are right, but as the PM can already see the project in PWA it's a
relatively minor permission change to give him read acces in MSP.
