Cross-reference -> Above/Below doesnt work.

I am using cross-reference alot and about 90% of the time i am using
Cross-reference -> Above/below (inserting the above or below) it inserts the
text-title instead.
Fx if i mark a paragraph as a bookmark and then type som text and then wants
to insert "look above" it should be done well by inserting this
cross-reference. But insted of inserting the above-below, Word inserts the
entire text in the paragraph. Its not me - i have used this function lots of
times before and i am pretty well skilled in Word2007 (which you have to be
if youre a part of the university, writing reports all day long).

So any suggestions? Its a bit annoying actually.

Hi Kian,

Select the errant cross-reference and press Shift-F9. You should see a REF field coded something like:
{REF Bookmark_Name \p}
It's the '\p' that controls the above/below text. If all you want is 'above'/'below', make sure the '\p' is there and nothing else.
If the '\p' is missing, that suggests the cross-reference wasn't inserted correctly.

Note that "above" and "below" are used only if the bookmark appears on the
same page as the cross-reference; if you don't get that, you should be
getting a page number, not the caption itself.

hmmmm... what i get is as you mention with a /h included { REF Bookmarkanem
/p /h }

But as Suzanne mention the bookmark isnt on the same page but then a
pagenumber should be inserted. Anyway - I think i'll stick to the pagenumber
instead - its just weird that above/below only works if its on the same page
as the bookmark and if not you get the entire bookmark pasted instead. I dont
get the point!

Now this doesnt make much sense.... i dont get the point in disabling
above/below just because the cross-ref and the bookmark isnt on the same
page. Anyway that might explain why it works a few times but not all the time
:)
I never noticed if the cross-ref and the bookmark was on the same page before.
So just to tell, i dont get the pagenumber, i get the entire bookmark
pasted, which i am not satisfied with :) so i think i'll stick to the
pagenumber-ref anyway instead of this silly above/below thing.

Thanks anyway

The reason for using above/below at all is that a page reference to the same
page would be absurd. But if you want the page number, I suspect you need to
use a PAGEREF field rather than REF. This isn't made very clear in the
dialog, and I'm not sure exactly how it's supposed to work.

In fact, if I insert a cross-reference (above/below) to a heading on page 1,
I get "above" regardless of whether the cross-reference is on page 1 or on
page 2. If I change the REF field to PAGEREF, then I get "on page 1" if the
cross-reference is on page 2 and "above" if it's on page 1.
