Cross-reference Insert not available

I'm using Word 2002. I am trying to insert a cross-
reference: I clicked on the name: Table 2.2.1, but when I
go to click on Insert, it is gray-ed out. The only
option is to cancel.
I've had no luck searching for this via Google or
Microsoft help either.
