Cross-reference permissions table

G

Gaspar P.L.

Hi everybody.

Is there any document with a cross-reference like information in order to
know how to configure explicit user profiles?

At my understanding, there are many groups of permissions (Group, individual
user, Global and Category) and, when I need to define a particular profile
for a user account I must to say to my superiors: 'Houston, we have a
problem'.

The combinations may appear so complex to me when I need to work with that
(define permissions). That's why I need that kind of information.

Anybody can help me?

Beforehand, thanks.

Hi, Howard.

Thanks for your answer.

Have you ever been in a similar situation like that? I made this cuestion
'cause I cannot find any solution at www.projectserverexperts.com site.

Sorry but, maybe I'm not looking for well.

Beforehand, thanks.

I would strongly recommend that you set permissions for users by placing
them into the proper Groups in PWA. This way, the resource will inherit the
permissions from the group to which he/she belongs. This makes Project
Server security much easier to handle.

Also, refer to the following FAQ for information about documentation and
training on Project Server:

When I referred you to the documentation, you will find free documents from
Microsoft, the two books published by our company which are available for
purchase, and upcoming virtual training events from our company over the
Internet. Any of these resources can ultimately answer your question. Hope
this helps.

Once again, thanks for your answer.

However, you only offers me advertisment about books and free articles by
Microsoft wich I've read many times looking for a solution previously to this
forum.

I'm really worry about to find an answer out of that biblo; that's why I'm
in this forum. If you could send me a concretly information it wold be very
worth for me.

Thanks again.

Best regards.

My best advice is that you configure security for each user by adding them
to the default Groups in PWA. For example, add those who function as
project managers to the default Project Managers group. I think you will
find that the default settings for this Group allows your PM's to do what
they need to do in both Microsoft Project and PWA. If not, you can tweak
the Group permissions settings as needed. This is the simplest and best
approach to Project Server security, and is the approach we recommend to all
of our clients and all of our students.

I strongly recommend that you DO NOT attempt to set permissions for each
user account in PWA individually.

Beyond these general recommendations, I'm not certain what your question
actually is. Let us know if this helps.
