Cross reference without label

Is it possible to only display the number and not the label in a
cross-reference, i.e. get "2.1" as the field value when I refere to "Figure
2.1"?

Thanks in advance,
Magnus

Yes. There are several ways, but one way to do it while still using Word's
built-in caption feature is as follows:

1. Insert the caption as usual.

2. Insert the cross-reference as usual (note that this step *must* precede
the next ones).

3. Go to the caption and select just the number (without the label).

4. Insert | Bookmark. Make sure that "Hidden bookmarks" is checked and the
"Location" radio button is selected.

5. The bookmark that is highlighted is the one for your caption. Click the
Add button, and the bookmark will be moved to include just the number.

6. Return to your cross-reference and F9 to update.
