Cross reference

Hello, I found a bug on MS Word on my PC (Windows XP OS). Opening a file
including a list of items referenced by a new defined caption type, the cross
reference list is empty for that type of caption.

The same behaviour is not present if I open the same file in another PC
(Windows XP as well): the cross reference list shows me all the items
referenced by that type of caption

Hi pino69,

Does this still occur after you used Help | Detect and Repair...?

Good luck,

Hi Cooz

no, the only operations I performed on the document was the following

- opening and modifying the document
- saving the document
- sending it via Lotus Notes

Hi pino69,

Since you spoke of a bug, I assumed that this behavior occurred for all
documents that have "a list of items referenced by a new defined caption
type". Can you reproduce this behavior with a different document?

If so, try Help | Detect and Repair... Probably something has fallen down in
your version of Word.

If not, something may be wrong with the document. Try copy and paste the
entire document _except_ the last paragraph into a new one, and work with the
new document. Any better?

Good luck,
Cooz

Hi Cooz,

before trying what you proposed in the version of Word not working, also in
the other application something got wrong: Word swap the meaning of two
captions, "Figure" and a new defined one ("R" for Requirement); hence I found
"R" under the figures and "Figure" as Requirement. Trying to solve the
problem (I undid a few steps) I lost all the reference to the figures.

In case it could be useful, this is the version of myu Word appl.

Microsoft Word 2000 (9.0.7616 SP-3)

Cooz, I guess you could help me. I have a 70 page word document with a lot
of tables. I have no problems with numbering or renumbering but during the
writitn I created some 6 Foot Notes. Then I deleted them and wrote new ones,
but the system is keeping three of them inside. If I open the Notes List in
the Normal view, there is nothing there. But if I insert a Cross Reference
and open Foot Notes, I can see 3 texts standing there. Even one of the pages
keep showing the separation line even though there is no call for a reference
in any part of that page.
I have tried erasing all sort of paragraphs, pages, etc., but the problem
remains. I have opened it in Open and Repair and it dose nothing for it. Do
you have a hint of how could I get rid of those three references? Is there a
Hidden File where I can directly go inside the Word program and erease them
directly? Nothing in the Help system of the computer show how to solve it.
Thanks. SEGMENTA.

Hi Segmenta,

I'm flattered that you request help especially from me.
If you started a new thread, others presumably would have jumped in already,
but since we're here, this is my suggestion:

The bigger the doc, the greater the chance of corruption.
Try what I proposed pino69: copy the entire document _except_ the last
paragraph mark into a new document, and use this one.

Any better?

Good luck,
Cooz

Segmenta answered:
Cooz, thanks a lot. A little while after I red your previous recomendation,
I tried it an it worked well. It is amazing to find out that so many people
have the same problems everywhere. It seems the guys who make the programs
never know about them. Eitherway, thanks and I will keep you in mind in case
I need a word "expert" again.
